Marble Hill House

Marble Hill House was built for Henrietta Howard, the mistress of the Prince of Wales, who later became King George II. Built in the "Palladian" style after the Italian architect Andrea Palladio. The house is well balanced and of symmetrical design. Set 66 acres of riverside parkland, Marble Hill became an Arcadian retreat from the 18th - century London, where Alexander Pope, Jonathan Swift and John Gray attempted to empty it's wine cellar. Today , Marble Hill is owned and cared for by English Heritage.
